We are a family of winemakers

Five generations of winemakers and more than a hundred years of history. The same vineyards and the same plots handed down from father to son, in one of the most suitable areas of the hills of Barolo, between Monforte and Serralunga d’Alba.

Manzone Giovanni is a journey filled with overwhelming passion: the journey of the Castelletto vineyards, whose generosity nourished forefathers and whose wines have led the new generations to make the Barolo produced here known all over the world.

A devotion rooted in the utmost respect for the land and its fruits, a form of winemaking that almost no longer exists.

The Manzone family expresses the essence of Langa: humble origins that have made wines great, because they were born out of an authentic passion for their beloved hills.

GIOVANNI AND RITA MANZONE

Giovanni and Rita are the memory, hands and history of the Manzone family. Giovanni has worked among the rows since he was young, while Rita worked in the countryside and was an elementary school teacher in Monforte d’Alba. They got married in 1977 and have shared everything: the hard work of winemaking, the great unknown brought by the expansion of their winery , the joy of caring for a large family that continues their adventure today. «What I like about my job», says Giovanni, «is the ability of making memories. Wine holds the memory of a first taste, and it opens to a world of people, landscapes and emotions that are always different».

MAURO MANZONE

Class of 1985, oenologist Mauro was born “under the sign” of the vine. His mother Rita had just started harvesting Nebbiolo when her contractions began. Harvest had to be stopped and resumed only weeks later. But the weather had been favorable, and, in the end, there had been two celebrations: Mauro’s birth and the bottling of one of the best vintages of the decade. « I love wine because it is like a work of art: inside each bottle is the signature of the person who produced it». Since 2005 Mauro has been the stopper of the Barolo Boys, the team of wine producers from Monforte d’Alba that yearly organizes Barolo Boys in offside, one of the most important tastings of Barolo made by local producers.

MIRELLA MANZONE

Food technologist and mother of two wonderful girls. After working for an important food multinational, Mirella returned to the vineyards of Castelletto, handling management and hospitality. «The rhythms of nature are like shivers on the skin, a physical manifestation of time and the course of life». As for wine, she likes what lies behind it: « It is a story of taste that meets the emotion of an encounter».

patrizia manzone

PATRIZIA MANZONE

Patrizia was born in 1979 and is the eldest daughter of the family. She studied Accounting and earned a degree in Theology. This brought her closer to younger generations and to missionary work, which she has always closely leaned to. She left for Africa in 2008 to lend a hand at the Diocese of Marsabit in Kenya, which has been associated to the Diocese of Alba since the 1960s. There, she met her husband who also worked as a lay missionary, and together they have three children. After living in Marsabit for 15 years, Patrizia and her family returned to the Langhe in 2022, where they continue their missionary work. «I understood the importance of these hills after I left», says Patrizia. «For me, wine is about relations, roots and recollections. I want to instill my children with values like respect for the territory and devoting the same care that my family has always reserved for our land over the generations».
