Surviving and looking further

Ciabot del Preve turned out to be very productive. Wheat and corn were produced; oxen and hens were raised; there were also sheep that grazed in the woods covering the area.
But the real treasure were the vines: independently processing and vinifying grapes in the 1950s meant exponentially increasing the value of one’s work, not having to put up with the miserable prices set by grape buyers.
Giovanni and his son Stefano, who had just returned from the war in Albania, produced Dolcetto, Barbera and Nebbiolo which they directly marketed to a niche of customers between Alba and Turin. The first bottled vintage of Barolo Ciabot del Preve is from 1961.
